Open Postdoc on computational methods and inverse problems

Submitted by Andrew J. Gross on
A Postdoctoral Fellow is sought to fill an immediate opening in the Gross Materials Lab at the University of South Carolina to work on a DARPA funded project. The postdoc will have the opportunity to attend regular meetings with DARPA and other DOD program managers. The research is focused on extracting yield surfaces from data rich full-field experimental information by solving an inverse problem.

Open Master's or PhD position for Fall 2023 on experimental mechanics

Submitted by Andrew J. Gross on

One MS or PhD student is sought to fill an opening in the Gross Materials Lab (group website: andrewjgross.com) at the University of South Carolina. This research is focused on conducting novel mechanical experiments with advanced metrology. This research is primarily experimental and will integrate with the work of a postdoc working on computational methods to distill the multitudes of data into information that practicing engineers rely on. Students must have prior hands on experience to be considered (any prior experience is OK, whether it be in a lab, garage, shop, etc.).

Open PhD position for Fall 2023 on the multiscale damage mechanics of pyrolyzing carbon

Submitted by Andrew J. Gross on

One PhD student is sought to fill an opening in the Gross Materials Lab (group website: andrewjgross.com) at the University of South Carolina. This research is focused on developing predictive models for how damage forms in carbon/carbon composites during manufacturing. This research will be primarily computational and provide opportunities to work closely with a team of researchers that are conducting experiments.  Students must be capable coders and a US citizen to be considered.

Architected Materials PhD Position for Fall 2021

Submitted by Andrew J. Gross on

A PhD student is being sought to fill an opening in the Gross Materials Lab (group website: andrewjgross.com) at the University of South Carolina. Research activities are focused on the design, fabrication, and characterization of architected materials. Students must be capable coders to be considered. Prior experience configuring optical equipment and National Instruments DAQ hardware is valuable, but not required. Students interested in or having prior experience with finite element modeling, mechanical property testing, and 3D printing are strongly encouraged to apply.
