Applications are invited for three PhD and two postdoc positions in the area of computational mechanics of materials at the University of Padova, Italy.

The successful candidates will work at building a multiscale model for the study of contact, friction and solid lubrication between metal surfaces, sponsored by an ERC consolidator grant.

Structural hierarchy through self-assembly

Architected materials with nano and microscale features can have extraordinarily high strength, stiffness, and toughness per weight. Two well-known biological materials with these characteristics are nacre (mother of pearl)1 and the claw of the mantis shrimp.2 These materials are made of up periodic arrangements of hard domains interspersed with soft matter (Fig. 1). Structural hierarchy exists at different length scales, and varies spatially across the material.

Bonding dissimilar polymer networks in various manufacturing processes

Dear Friends,

Please find our paper on Nature Communications about a novel method to bond hydrogel and elastomers. Comparing to existing methods, our method features the applicability to various manufacturing processes, including dip-coating and 3D printing.

Jobs (x2): Post-doc+Programmer - Rhino Plugin implementation for Isogeometric BEM or/and Isogeometric FEM

We are looking for a C++ or CSharp Programmer and a post-doctoral fellow to couple our in-house Isogeometric BEM/FEM and Collocation approach to Rhino3D. Funding is available for 12 months of post-doc as well as programming time for a GUI and interfacing with Rhino3D. Freelance programmers are welcome to apply. Knowledge of elasticity, linear algebra and BEM acceleration are a plus.
