Rotating deformable parts in eroding contact in Abaqus Explicit

Submitted by Saqibanwar on

I am trying to model (3D) dressing process in which both the dressor and the grinding wheel are rotating as deformable bodies using ABAQUS 6.13 (Explicit analysis). I want to simulate a small portion from both wheels rotating against each other with general contact. To rotate them I am applying coupling constraint. However, when I apply coupling constraint to rotate the wheels with their respective reference points (RP's), they become rigid in sense that no stresses are developed. Even if I apply only VR3 to RP's, no stresses will develop in the grinding wheel or dressor.

Position Open at NUS (Singapore): Research Fellow

Submitted by Adrian S. J. Koh on

One Research Fellow (Post-doc) position is open at the National University of Singapore.

If hired, you will work at Soft Materials Lab @ Advanced Robotics Centre (ARC), which I head.

Job Desription: Conduct research on biomechanics of the human motion, and how to effectively harvest energy from these motions using a soft and stretchable generator.  You are expected to perform both theoretical and experimental investigation, produce research papers and perhaps, file patents.

Dominion is one of the nation's largest producers and transporters of energy, with a portfolio of approximately 27,500 megawatts of electric generation, 11,000 miles of natural gas transmission, gathering and storage pipeline and 63,200 miles of electric transmission and distribution lines. The company operates one of the largest natural gas storage systems in the U.S. with 947 billion cubic feet of capacity, and serves nearly 6 million utility and retail energy customers in 10 states.

creating zero thickness cohesive elements using tetra mesh

Submitted by matunt on

Hello everyone,

I am working on crack simualtion by creating zero thickness cohesive elements by editing the nodal co-ordinate in ABAQUS. I am able to simualte it on some of the components using hexa mesh , but for complex components it should be meshed with tetra mesh so,   my question is , is it  possible to create zero thickness elements using tetra mesh in ABAQUS? If it is then please guide me  through this problem.

Thank You.

Dynamic necking can avoid notches

Submitted by D.Rittel on

Following an earlier post on dynamic necking of tensile bars, we show in the attached paper (to appear in JMPS) that the presence of deep notches in the specimen does not necessarily dictate the location of the neck. Various material parameters are identified and modeled numerically, to assess their respective influence. Strain-rate sensitivity is identified as an important factor.
