In this movie taken at 1 Mfps using our new Kirana camera (courtesy Y. Rotbaum), one can see a dynamic tension test of a grroved specimen in a tensile Hopkinson bar. The groove is relatively sharp and 10% of the diameter in depth.

It so happens that the dynamic neck inception occurs outside the notch area, in other words a strong geometrical flaw does not dictate the failure locus. We have performed over a hundred of such experiments. This is a very interesting and challenging observation....

 I want to  simulate contact problem by using UEL.I define the surface in the inp file.But abaqus don not 

recognize it. How can I solve this problem?

Hi everyone
I am trying to use Abaqus with combined hardening (kinematic + isotropic ) material. Structural milled steel strain-stress curve was obtained through tensile coupon test (ASTM E8).
Please let me know how I can extract material property (C , ɣ , Q and b ) for property input?
It is my first approach to martial plasticity so any detailed explanations or examples would be appreciated.

The considered mechanical properties include E, G, density and v respectively for both fibers and matrix separetly.

How to define JOULE HEAT FRACTION in ABAQUS as a function of temperature? Thank you!

Greetings all,

i want to know, is there any way to measure edge length ( "curves" specifically,  not looking for straight edge length  using distance between vertices as query feature :) ), and also to get vertices co-ordinates in  local co-ordinate system; in ABAQUS CAE or using python scripting.

my problem is somehow related to above query,  can manage solution with 'other' tricks, but want to know any standard methods are avaliable.

Any help is appreciated.
