I am currently conducting biomechanical research on the deflection of the human clavicle during side-impact vehicle collisions. Does anyone have experience with using complex forms of Beam Theory? It may turn out to be fruitless, but I would like to investigate the possibility of using beam theory to model this complex S-shaped bone. Any guidance is much appreciated!

I wanted to get some insight in the transient stress intensity factor (SIF).

In the time history, we notice there is an overshoot (~27%)  from the

steady state SIF for a fixed (not propagating crack). I found the

overshoot occurs at the time when the reflected wave from the opposite

crack-tip comes back to the first crack tip. I wanted to know why this

overshoot occurs, what is the physical explanation?

anyone knows the procedure for solving composite plates in ansys 5.4 or 10.

I have a question that has troubled me for quite a while. Any kind of help would be greatly appreciated. I am computing the strain-energy density in a elastic solid when wave passes through. The formula I use is U=[I1^2+2(1+v)I2]/(2E), where U is the strain-energy density, I1 and I2 the first and second principal stress invariants, v poisson's ratio=0.3, E the Young's modulus. Since I1^2 must be positive, I2 might be negative behind the wave front. U might be negative. However, the textbook and many papers I ran into, says strain-energy density must be positive.

i have to model a graphite/epoxy [0/+-45/90]2s composite laminate using ansys. can anyone please help me how to model it, as i m using ansys 4 the 1st time and dont know how to model a composite.
