Research Post Mechanics of Multilattices (Theory) Cambridge

Submitted by Hilde F on

There is an opportunity to invent interpenetrating lattice materials in order to design materials of any given stiffness, strength and toughness. Currently, lattice materials, such as the 2D honeycomb and the 3D octet truss, exist in a single material on a single length scale. The challenge is to fill the intervening gaps in the lattice with a second lattice in order to improve the macroscopic properties. The new lattices will be manufactured and tested by a collaborator within the group.

Testing and modelling of micro cement paste cube under indentation splitting

Submitted by shavijabranko on

Dear all,

Our paper on an innovative method for testing and modelling of cement paste at micro-scale (100 micrometre) has been presented at the EURO-C conference in Austria. Full paper can be accessed at: https://www.researchgate.net/publication/323656746_Testing_and_modellin…;

A volume-averaged nodal projection method for the Reissner-Mindlin plate model

Submitted by Alejandro Orti… on
We introduce a novel meshfree Galerkin method for the solution of Reissner-Mindlin plate problems that is written in terms of the primitive variables only (i.e., rotations and transverse displacement) and is devoid of shear-locking.

Mechanics of Mushroom as a material

Submitted by Mohammad Refat… on

We recently characterized a unique material developed from root structure (Mycelium) of mushroom. Mycelium has a filamentous network structure with mechanics largely controlled by filament elasticity and branching, and network density. We report the morphological and mechanical characterization of mycelium. The monotonic mechanical behavior of the mycelium is non-linear both in tension and compression.

Simpleware at ORS 2018, Mar 10-Mar 13, New Orleans

Submitted by Simpleware on

Learn about Synopsys Simpleware software's 3D image data (MRI, CT, micro-CT...) processing and model generation capabilities for orthopaedics, including medical device design, at this year's ORS.

We'll be available at booth #1215 to discuss how to use Simpleware software to improve workflows using complex scan data.

Research in Fluid Structure Interaction: Looking for PhD position

Submitted by p.avinash on

Hello,

I have completed my M.Tech (2015-17) from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati with specialization in Computational Mechanics.

I worked on Fluid Structure Interaction during my masters and developed a new Finite Element Algorithm to couple fluid and solid domains.

I aim to focus on FSI and Parallel Computation for my further research in PhD.

I'll welcome PhD offers with similar research interests.
