We are pleased to announce a 4-day CECAM/Psi-k Workshop on

"Chemical and structural transformations in materials under mechanical load",

 that will take place at the EPFL campus in Lausanne from Tuesday 1st September to Friday 4th September 2015.

The focus of the workshop will be on materials’ structural and chemical transformations that are caused by external loads and in turn determine the materials macroscopic mechanical response. Particular attention will be devoted to the following thematic areas:

The rapid and efficient development of soft active materials requires readily available, compact testing equipment. We propose a desktop-sized, cost-efficient, and open source radial stretching system as an alternative to commercially available biaxial and uniaxial stretching devices. It allows for doubling the diameter of an elastomer membrane while measuring the applied force. Our development enables significant cost reduction (<300 €) and increase the availability of equibiaxial deformation measurements for scientific material analysis.

School of Mechanics and Engineering, Southwest Jiaotong University (西南交通大学力学与工程学院) has always paid great attention to the development of its faculty group. We are actively recruiting talents in all fields of mechanics, including (in order of priority) Fluid Mechanics,Dynamics and Control,Solid Mechanics and other related fields.
