Simple Open Source Solver

Submitted by ESPcomposites on
Choose a channel featured in the header of iMechanica

I found the below thread, and thought this would be a good place to ask about open source FEM.

forum/357

But unlike that thread, I want something that is very simple, that can be run with just a single .exe.  I only need to solve basic structural problems and perhaps eigenvalue problems.  Orthotropic material capability is needed, but input for a composite material via lamina and stacking sequence would be better.

buckling analysis for cylindrical ring

Submitted by shmuel.baskin on

Dear Members Hello

I am conducting buckling analysis for cylindrical ring (Short and thick cylinder) with Lateral Pressure.

I reviewed the basic books ("Buckling of Bars, Plates, and Shells" and "Theory of Elastic Stability" – Timoshenko) and all I could find is buckling of rectangular planes in the axial direction or buckling of cylindrical shells which buckles in the radial direction.

Simulating Hole punching operation using MSC Marc

Submitted by kruzster on

Does anyone who has previously worked on MSC Marc worked with the concept of element activation and deactivation...?

I need to do a simulation wherein a hole is required to be punched in an alloy steel bar.

The issue is that I am not sure as to how to go about this.

If there is anyone who can guide me through this ..I would appreciate it..!!

Regards,

Krunal.

Warpage Measurement of PCB With 3D Profilometry

Submitted by NANOVEA on

Flatness measurement of electronic parts and assemblies, or PCB’s, has become increasingly critical as geometries become smaller: finer pitches, smaller solder ball volumes, thinner substrates, etc. Additionally, processing temperatures vary and can play a major role in PCB warpage and or planarity defects. As a result, accurate flatness measurement, using a profilometer,  has become vitally important to warpage characterization and planarity measurement.

The use of IOSO Optimization and ABAQUS at Civil Structures of NPP (from ABAQUS Users' Conference)

Submitted by IOSOnier on

At the stage of NPP civil structure design for determination of stress-strain state (SSS) at static and dynamic loading ABAQUS is widely used. Hereto the floor response spectra are determined for calculation of loadings on the equipment at special dynamic impacts (seismic, air shock wave, aircraft crash). In case if the obtained characteristics of SSS or spectral accelerations exceed maximum permissible values, designers take actions on strengthening the corresponding structural components.

question on double cantilever beam test

Submitted by dukkipat on

I have a beginner's question on DCB testing of polymers. The fracture strength during Mode 1 loading increases with crack length due to the compliance of the test specimen. In other words it becomes harder to induce fracture as the crack length increases. Is my understanding correct?

Thanks

Venkat

Acurate Size Measurements of Nano Particles and Nano Pores Make Mechanical Understanding Easy

Submitted by Dehua Yang on

Encouraged by its current and prospective customers, Ebatco’s Nano Analysis and Testing Laboratory (NAT Lab) has expanded its nano/micro scale analytical and measurement capabilities significantly. More than ever before, customers can gain insights and comprehension of what is going on and why it has happened at the nano/micro scale.

IOSO application for casting processes

Submitted by IOSOnier on

Dear Colleagues,

New practical case studies made with the aides of IOSO in new engineering fields prove universal capabilities of IOSO Optimization Technology applicable to wide variety of real-life problems. Let us provide you the brief description of the problem that was solved by Italian engineering consultancy company XC Engineering for the well-known Swiss production firm Buhler. The problem was to search for the optimal velocity of the piston in an HPDC process.
