The Mechanics and Computation Group (Department of Mechanical Engineering) at Stanford University is seeking applicants for the “Stephen Timoshenko Distinguished Postdoctoral Fellowship.” This appointment is for a term of two years, beginning in September 2018.
PhD openings are available in Dr. Caizhi Zhou's group in the Department of Mechanical Engineering or Materials Science and Engieering at Missouri University of Science and Technology (formerly University of Missouri-Rolla). Research projects may involve crystal plasticity finite element modeling or atomistic simulations. The students will receive rigorous training and interact intensively with their academic advisor. The financial support will be in the form of GRA with a monthly stipend of approximately $2100 for 12 months each year (the tuition will be waived).
The School of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering at the University of New South Wales (UNSW Sydney) seeks candidates for a full time, tenure track position in the area of Multiscale Computational Solid Mechanics at as level (Lecturer, Senior Lecturer, or Associate Professor) commensurate with academic qualifications and experience.

We are looking for a postdoctoral fellow to work at the intersection of robotics and mechanics. The selected candidate will join the Structures-Computer Interaction Laboratory, a new group in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering of the University of California, Los Angeles. Visit our website: https://structures.computer. The research project aims to use collaborative robots to investigate the mechanics of structures (slender/flexible structures in particular). Our lab is equipped with a Sawyer collaborative robot from Rethink Robotics. We will explore how continuum mechanics simulations can be used to train robots to perform simple tasks, e.g. tying knots in ropes. Details of the project will be determined after consultation with the candidate.
A PhD position is open for Spring 2018 in Advanced Hierarchical Materials by Design Lab at Louisiana Tech University on multiscale modeling of metamaterials. The candidates must have earned a degree in Mechanical Engineering or related fields (applicants with a MSc will be given priority) and have a solid background in theoretical and computational mechanics. Having knowledge of continuum mechanics, finite element modeling, and a programming language is a plus.
The University of Bristol (UK) and the China Scholarship Council are jointly offering many full PhD Scholarships in all disciplines. The application deadline is 15 January 2018.
There is one open Ph.D. student position fully funded in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Villanova University. The position starts Fall 2018. The successful applicant will work with Dr. David Cereceda in the Multiscale Modeling and Machine Learning (M3L) Laboratory on interdisciplinary research topics that involve Computational Mechanics, Multiscale Modeling of Materials and Machine Learning.
Two funded PhD positions for 4 years are available in the composites group at Ghent University in Belgium. Both are focussed on computational mechanics of composites, in the framework of multi-scale modelling.
