A postdoctoral fellowship position is available at the laboratory of Rafael Grytz, PhD, at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, for 2 years, starting immediately. The candidate will be instrumental in developing computational methods to quantify and simulate growth and remodeling mechanisms in ocular conditions and diseases.

Friction and wear are important processes that determine the function of many mechanical devices, but their underlying microscopic physical principles are complex and often not well understood. Amorphous – or glassy – materials often form on surfaces that have experienced frictional loading. The research will involve large-scale molecular dynamics simulation of the near-surface deformation upon indentation and scratching of network and bulk metallic glasses.

Applications are invited for a PhD studentship fully funded by the EU research project. The position is for a three-year research program leading to the PhD degree.

C-SWARM is a newly established center of the emerging field of predictive science. The main mission of C-SWARM is to predict shock conditions under which new materials can be synthesized using predictive computational models that are verified and validated with quantified uncertainty on future high-performance Exascale computer platforms.
