PhD position available at Ecole Polytechnique

Submitted by Laurence Bodelot on

One Ph.D. position is now available starting October 2013 on
magnetorheological elastomers in the Solid Mechanics Laboratory of
Ecole Polytechnique, France. The potential student will work on the
development of new experimental procedures and high fidelity numerical
models for the understanding and constitutive description of
microstructured magnetorheological solids. Students with strong
interest in new coupled problems and strong background in engineering,
physics or/and mechanics are encouraged to apply.

Surface Pressure in Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics Model

Submitted by Kewei Li on

Hi, All: I am working on a fluid structure interaction problem with Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics (SPH) method in Abaqus. My solid is a deformable structure. I would like to know the pressure on the surface of structure where solid and fluid (particles) contact with each other. I wonder how could I output this vailable from the SPH model in Abaqus. Thanks a lot in advance for any help!

3-D Microstructure Reconstruction of Polymer Nano-Composite using FIB-SEM and Statistical Correlation Function

Abstract

3-D
reconstruction of Halloysite nanotube (HNT) polypropylene composite has
been performed using two different methods. In the first method,
several slices of the composite material were obtained using focused ion
beam (FIB), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). A representative
volume element (RVE) of the real material’s micro/nanostructures was

Mode 1 contours

Submitted by Bharadwaj on

Could anyone tell me why in abaqus, while running a 3D mode 1 fracture analysis,I am not getting the same type of contours on either end of the thickness,i.e.i mean, front and back??While in front side i am getting all the symmetric contour plots, including the red part which shows the highest in the legend, while the back side is devoid of it

Hi,

I'm new in this forum and happy to be with lot of great people in mechanics.

first, sorry for my bad english because i'm not a native speaker.

i have some questions about stress analysis in multilayer plates:

- i have a plate (30 cm * 30 cm) in a 4 points bending, can i model it like in cylindrical bending (i can have an analytical solution) with reissner mindlin model (or layer wise model) ?

Hello all.

For the below cases:

1) Penny-shaped crack in a cylindrical bar

2) Penny-shaped crack in an infinite body
3) Semi-elliptical surface crack

I need to calculate the stress intensity factors by using ABAQUS.

Please help me how can I start and provide me any tutorial/example if you have.  I shall be grateful to you.

Sincerely
sufian
