Help me through please!- Need Guidance!

Dear All,

I am a Masters Student in Material Science, I am supposed to do the Finite

Element modeling of PTFE material with few content of short carbon fibers. Could any of you please suggest the best,

 1.Modeling method, its

2.Material parameters and

3.References of that best modeling method.

Would be really thankful and would be helpful for my studies as well.

Producing Stress Analysis from Strain data

Submitted by G Rezk on
Choose a channel featured in the header of iMechanica

I am doing research on the stresses that are produced when a retainer (a thermoplastic sheet) is placed on the teeth. We've designed the project so that we take an initial scan of the sheet and a final "shifted" scan of the sheet. We'd like to compare, find the strain, and calculate the stress neccessary to produce this strain.

I was hoping to use FEA for this...is it possible? I have access to Abaqus and Ansys, and where can i find the commands that allow me to do this.

Modelling Ice deformation and fracture in Abaqus

Submitted by Daniel Prawica on

Hello Abaqus Users,

I am new to Abaqus: I am trying to model formation and propagation of fractures in glacial ice (note: ice deformation mainly by plastic flow). I was wondering if anyone has modeled ice as a material exhibiting a nonlinear behavior, or possibly have a user subroutine for ice that I could use. Thanks in advance for any help.

solver for a very hetereogeneous system of equations

Submitted by phunguyen on

Hello everybody,

I am solving a FE problem on a hetereogeneous medium consisting of rigid phase (Young modulus of about 100 000 N/mm2), a softer phase (Young modulus of 20 000 N/mm2) and pore (Young modulus of 1 N/mm2). The reason that I have to mesh the pore is that there are some elements of rigid phase hanging out in the pores. So, if I do not mesh the pore, then my FE matrix is singular.
