The Dept of Eng Sci at Uppsala University is looking for a project worker in structural modeling of the 17th century Vasa Ship

Submitted by syvoney on

The Swedish
17th century Vasa ship is unique in its kind and of high cultural
and historical interest. Therefore, interdisciplinary research teams are
constantly busy to keep the slowly degrading and deforming warship in good
geometrical shape. Initiated in 2012, the latest research project aims to
investigate creep in the Vasa ship and to develop a new support system for
improved dimensional stability. For this purpose a finite element model will be
created to assess the effect of varying geometrical parameters and material
properties. One of the key aspects is the influence of the joints of the ship

TSHR output problem

Submitted by matejh on

Dear colleagues,

I have one question concerning the TSHR (transverse shear stresses) output request in application of Thick Shell S8R elements in Abaqus/standard.

the follow qarning occurs:  Output request tshr is not available when *transverse shear stiffness is specified on the *shell section definition or a material in the shell has been defined without *elastic

Can anybody please help with an advioce or two, on how to solve this?

all the best

Finite Element software Z-set : new web page

Submitted by Vladislav Yastrebov on

New web page of Finite Element Analysis software Z-set is now open: http://zset-software.com/

What is Z-set

Z-set is a computational code devoted to the analysis of material and
structure behavior, involving a finite element solver and a collection
of specific tools for material parameter calibration, preprocessing and
postprocessing computations. Z-set is the result of 30 years of close collaboration between the

UMAT Multi-element Error

Hello All:

I have written a UMAT code to predict the viscoelastic behaviour within a
shape adaptive structure. I have followed similar steps used in Abaqus
subroutine manual, I have applied this UMAT to a single quad element and
it works as predicted. But when I apply it multiple elements model it
breaks down.

Is there any special command i need to put in UMAT subroutine to account
multi element analysis? I will appreciate all related comments,

Abaqus - warning message: c3d4h elements will enforce vol .... use *tie

Dear iMechanica-User,

i habe  a general question according to Abaqus. I'm dealing with an biom. model of the breast and i  created the mesh with the toolbox iso2mesh (matlab) / c3d4h elements - each element has it's own youngs modulusand is therefore defined as singel solid section (per element), but all elements use the same node-list. Simulation is done by compression of the breast using two plates.

So here is the problem: i always get the warning message:
