How Can I model a dental bridge in abaqus which it is made of composite beam that surround with ceramic (3d model)

Submitted by Morteza_Kiani on

Hi dear

I am going to model a 3d dental bridge in abaqus that it is made of 2 parts:

1: a beam with 5 plys from fiber and adhesive (composite part)

2: orthotropic ceramic part which surround the composite beam

I'd appreciate if you help me and write the sequences in the modeling of this issue.

please send it to my email: kian32m [at] yahoo.com (kian32m[at]yahoo[dot]com)

Maximal energy that can be converted by a Dielectric Elastomer Generator

Submitted by Adrian S. J. Koh on

Mechanical energy can be converted to electrical energy by using a dielectric elastomer generator.  The elastomer is susceptible to various modes of failure, including electrical breakdown, electromechanical instability, loss of tension, and rupture by stretch.  The modes of failure define a cycle of maximal energy that can be converted.  This cycle is represented on planes of work-conjugate coordinates, and may be used to guide the design of practical cycles.

Addendum To Pressure and Chemical Potential - a question on hydrostatics

Submitted by Tony Rockwell on

The question was raised in class as to what the appropriate equilibrium condition for a column of fluid at rest should be. Specifically, given we expect a hydrostatic gradient in pressure with height, whether  the chemical potential must be the same throughout the column was questioned. Here are my first thoughts. In brief, I assert that  the chemical potential must be everywhere identical, and that the pv term is balanced, at every height in the column, by the potential energy conferred by position in a gravitational field.

Hi,

I am a PhD student at Brunel University conducting my research on the noise and vibration attributed to spur gears in contact. I would like to ask for help from anyone who is an expert on gears for their opinion or direction in terms of reading material or thoughts on the limitations and design constraints of spur gear geometry.

help for determination of crack initiation location with analytical methods

There are three elliptical holes in the given plate, but make different angle with the direction of stress applied on the plate. I wonder if I can gain the solution listed below using analytical methods?(1) crack initiation will happen in which ellipse firstly, (2)the exaxt crack initiation location around the ellipse? And how?

thanks a lot!

Abaqus 3D model and 2D meshed cross-sections

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on

I have a 3D model in Abaqus of a wind turbine rotor, modelled with shell elements (S4R and S3). To use the same blade in an aeroelastic wind turbine code (HAWC2 from Risoe), I want to convert selected cross sections of the 3D model to Timoshenko beam elements.

Coupling Abaqus with an aeroedynamic code - PART 2

In a previous post some months ago (see here), I mentioned some of the questions I had considering the aeroelastic response of a wind turbine rotor. In this post I just want to give, for those interested, a brief status report.
