The Center for Natural Resources led by Professor Michel Boufadel is seeking highly motivated Ph.D. students in the general area of fluid dynamics to conduct research related to the behavior of oil and water at various scales (microns to meters).  The work would be mostly numerical, but some experimental work would be needed. The research applies to the oil spills, such as the Deepwater Horizon oil spill.

we have two open postdoc positions on soft matter tribology at the Italian Institute of Technology (IIT) in the beautiful Lecce, Italy (Center for Biomolecular Nanotechnologies, CBN, https://cbn.iit.it/). The activities will be performed in strict collaboration with the University of Salento, located in the same city, as well as with an international industrial partner. The positions are for 1 year, renewable up to three.

Journal of Applied Mechanics (JAM) continues to be a very fast journal.  Among all papers submitted in 2017, the average time from submission to the final decision (i.e., reject or accept) is less than 16 days.  These include the time for review and the time for authors' revisions (if needed).

Our group has recently performed a study on using ductile concrete, so called SHCC, as a surface layer in reinforced concrete structures in order to control the crack width. This will enable engineers to reduce the amount of reinforcement needed for crack control by using an advanced concrete type only where it is needed, thereby limiting the costs.
