As one of the biggest Departments of its kind in the UK, the Wolfson School of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering has an international reputation for being at the forefront of technological innovation and for maintaining extensive links with industry.
*Participation to this club is as easy as i) sending a reference/abstract of your paper if you are working in this area or ii) send a challenge concept/issue/expt if you are not experimentalist :)*
Hi,
The job below is being posted externally starting today, running through September 8th. If you know of anyone who would be a good candidate, please forward this to them. They need to apply at jointeamcaterpillar.com through the normal channels.

Dear Colleagues,
I would like to bring your attention to the contest on "Modeling and Simulation of Nano/Microsystems" at the University of Michigan. This is an international competition.
The objective of this contest is to provide publicity and
promotional support to new developments, recent progress, and advances
in the modeling and simulation of Micro/Nanosystems. The emphasis is on
current challenges in understanding of the multi-physics/multi-scale
phenomena that govern such systems functionality.
A postdoctoral research position is available in Dr. Yong Zhu’s lab in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at North Carolina State University. We are looking for a self-motivated researcher to work on projects involving mechanics of nanostructures including nanowires and nanotubes. A Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, Physics or a related area is required. Experience with in-situ nanomechanical testing using SEM, TEM, AFM or Raman are desirable.
The Department of Biomedical Engineering in The Henry Samueli School of Engineering at the University of California, Irvine invites applications for three postdoctoral scholar positions in the areas of (1) Cardiovascular Mechanics, (2) Heart Valve Engineering, and (3) Cardiac MRI Imaging. We seek qualified candidates with a strong background in computational modeling either in fluid or solid mechanics, strong programming background with application in MRI/Ultrasound and/or experimental expertise with heart valves.
I work in a thin-film photovoltaics institute. We deposit 1 µm silicon on glass substrate. This silicon has tensile stress.
Then, by etching through a tiny hole in the silicon with HF, we underetch the thin layer. This way, a circular area of the silicon is unattached to the glass. The circle grows with time. We observe spirals of cracks at these positions. Sometimes, there's only one spiral, sometimes we see two nested spirals.
