Why Rubber is incompressible?

Submitted by Muthukumar M on

Dear All,

Why rubber and like soft materials are incompressible? I do not want any explanation in formula like, volumetric strain is zero or poissons ratio is 0.5 etc. Physically whats happening when we apply compressive load? For example take a gas, when you compress, the density will change. Is there any of the properties are changing?

Thank you,

Muthu Kumar M

***ERROR: Bad Material definition: Zero or negative initial dilatational modulus caused by bad material data. Please check your.

Hi,

I'm conducting hypoplastic VUMAT model in abaqus. It always has the following problem.

***ERROR: Bad Material definition in element number 1: zero or negative
initial dilatational modulus caused by bad material data. Please
check your material input and any initial conditions if necessary.

For the single layer,it works well, but this problem will appear for two layers, even if I chose the same parameters.

Hoping anyone who has the same problem or has already settled successfully could give me some advice.

Cohesive Element in ABAQUS

Submitted by manooir on

Hello,

It is some time that I am struggling for making a physical interperation of the MAXSCRT in ABAQUS  and crack initiation.

When the MAXSCRT in ABAQUS in cohesive element is equal to 1, does it mean that the crack has been formed or just it means that irreversible deformation in the element has been formed?

Thank you,

Looking for Postdoc Position

Submitted by Mehdi Naderi on

I am
looking for postdoctoral position in the field of mechanical and material
engineering. I have my PhD from Louisiana State University, and currently
working with Dr. Khonsari at  Louisiana State University.

During
my Phd I was working on the material characterization and fatigue of metals and
composite materials using thermodynamic approach.

I have
the skills of modeling metals and composite materials failure using user
subroutines programing  in ABAQUS.
