Modelling offshore platform deck in fire

Submitted by Emmanuel E. Ufuah on

Hello fellow researchers,

I am almost completing my first year in research study and am finding it difficult running my structural simulation in ABAQUS once I have included non-linear geometric effects. I didn't have problem with the simple heat transfer analysis. I have also converted (--) to the true stress-logarithmic strain curves at elevated temperatures using the empirical model given in EC3, yet no good outcome. Can anyone suggest to me how I could go about it?

Comments will be gratefully appreciated.

Finite strain finite element formulation

Submitted by Sugeng Waluyo on

Hi ,

I am working with finite strain finite element formulation. Normaly, the weak form is derived from equilibrium at a reference configuration or differential of 1st piola-kirchoff stress tensor. In case, we have 10 steps of load increment, is it necessary to update nodal position or nodal coordinate for each step??. I am using newton-raphson method.

best regards,

sugeng

Enquiry about fracture mechanics simulation using ABAQUS

Submitted by phenixlee on

Hi,

I am very glad to be here.

I want to make some simulation work on the fracture mechanics of thin films. Because the LEEF model is used for bulk materials, I wonder whether it is reasonable to use in on thin films.

Are there some pannels in abaqus can do crack propagation work or some fracture mechanics?

I am a fresh man and look forward for your help.

Regards

Phenixlee

Course Notes of Finite Element Analysis of Solids and Fluids by Prof. K .J. Bathe

Submitted by Jung W. Hong on

I thought the mechanics community would be interested in the course notes of

Prof. K. J. Bathe on "Finite Element Analysis of Solids and Fluids". This

course was taught at MIT and now is available freely through MIT Open

Free software for radial Youngs modulus plots of laminates

Submitted by schuffe on

Hi,

i am looking for a free tool to create radial/radar plot for youngs, shear modulus

and poissons ratio (diagramms showing properties as a function of the angle).

so far i found one excel / vb based one but it is very basic.

Any suggestions?
