ASME-AMD Summer Meeting 2013: Dynamic Stability of Structural Systems

Submitted by deepaktrivedi on

Dear Colleague:

The 2013 summer meeting of ASME Applied Mechanics Division will be held jointly with the Society of Engineering Science at Brown University, Providence, RI, July 28-31. We are pleased to invite you to a session on Dynamic Stability of Structural Systems, under the symposium on Instability in Solids and Structures that is being organized by the AMD Technical Committee.

Difficulty in using connector uniaxial behavior Abaqus

Submitted by Rojit on

Dear Abaqus User,

Is there any other possible way to model connector uniaxial behavior (cyclic/hysteretic behavior) without using dynamic explicit analysis?  In the manual, it is mentioned that connector uniaxial behavior can be used only with explicit analysis. I am having problem when I chose to run dynamic explicit analysis. The model runs fine with general static step (using cyclic displacement as amplitude). I just need to run quasi static analysis as there is nothing to do with inertia effect.

Bulk Viscosity parameter iin Abaqus

Submitted by manasvi.mani on

Hi,

I am working on a nonlinear contact problem with Abaqus. One of the parts

involved in the complete model is very small and as its behaviour needs to

be studied when it interacts with other parts it is modelled with pretty

smaller elements as compared to other parts in the model. When I do a Dynamic explicit

analysis then the time increment which Abaqus calculates from an Element by

element estimate is of the order 1e-8 due to that very small part. I did
