PhD position related to Industry 4.0

Submitted by S. Thuillier on

The objective of this PhD is to design a demonstrator at the laboratory scale of complex, multi-step forming process for thin sheet of metallic materials, to provide a large amount of smart data to test the reliability of the numerical prediction of the final state of the material, e.g., the deformed geometry and the residual stresses. The technology readiness level (TRL) of this project is around 2-3 and no direct industrial application is aimed at.

An electro-chemo-mechanical framework for predicting hydrogen uptake in metals due to aqueous electrolytes

Submitted by Emilio Martíne… on

Dear iMechanicians, I hope that our latest paper is of interest. We develop an electro-chemo-mechanics framework that enables, for the first time, to quantify hydrogen uptake for any environment.

PhD position in experimental mechanics of cementitious composites at TU Delft

Submitted by shavijabranko on

Group of Materials and Environment at the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Geosciences, TU Delft, is looking for a motivated researcher with experience/knowledge in solid/experimental mechanics (with e.g., civil, mechanical, aerospace engineering background) to join their group as a PhD candidate. The work will focus on experimental characterization and understanding of composite action in a new class of cementitious composites which are reinforced with 3D printed reinforcement with a negative Poisson’s ratio.

PhD position in Civil Engineering at University of Illinois at Chicago

Submitted by cdfoster on

I am seeking a PhD student preferably starting January 2023, at University of Illinois at Chicago. Must be a US citizen or permanent resident (or, in some cases, working toward permanent residency). There are several professors in the department working on related projects in civil infrastructure. The project for which I am recruiting involves finite element or numerical analysis of infrastructure. There is some flexibility in defining the project.
