Sci & Engng Publication Output and the Research &Publication Environment in the US: NSF Reports

Within the last two weeks the US National Science Foundation (NSF) published not one but two studies on (a) the attitudes of scientists and engineers to the changing world of publication, and (b) the relative global productibity of US science & engineering as measured by journal publication.

These are not dense 500 page reports, but short, readable (10-15 min.). I think iMechanica readers will find them relevant and interesting:

How can we see load dipslacement cyrve of residual stressed material. I mean I m interested in extracting indentation properties from ABAQUS for material which has got some pre stress in terms of residual stress. What is procedure of assigning residual stress to some material in ABAQUS?

Reduce Time

The time reduction has two methods, including hardware technique based and software technique based.

For hardware based method, you can use an independent timer to trigger off the counter to measure the number of speed pulses in a suitable frequency, such as 1MHz. In that case, the time interval you obtained is so small that it apporaches to zero.

Instantaneous Angular Speed (IAS) is investigated for last 10 years in Condition Monitoring. The content of IAS is coming from angular speed. If the time taken is reduced apporaching to zero, we can measure the angle travelled to extract IAS, or if the angle travelled is reduced to zero, we can measure the time elapsed to extract IAS.

I am Ali Nojoumi a M.Sc. Civil engineer and I'm modleing shape memory alloys using in concrete shear walls to reduce the effects of earthquakes...

making my Model by ABAQUS, I should use UserSubroutine to define such SuperElastic behavior How can I manage that and have anyone ever done this?

Johnson Cook Plasticity Model

Dear friends,

Can anybody give me information/Website/papers/... on below mentioned topic ??

on Johnson Cook plasticity model with analytical forms of the hardening law and rate dependence. I am trying to use this in my high-strain-rate transient dynamic simulations (metals). I am using ABAQUS as analysis tool.
