This work presents a modified phase-field model for accurate coupling of phase transformation and cracking in shape memory ceramics. The existing phase-field models underestimate the elastic response at the beginning of the mechanical response. We modified the chemical free energy to control the rate of phase transformation and consequently obtain a physical elastic response before initiation of phase transformation. First, the forward and reverse martensitic phase transformation in a superelastic single crystal 3 mol% yttria-stabilized tetragonal zirconia is studied.
Dear Members of FFMTC,
This year, at the ASME IMECE conference, the Fracture and Failure Mechanics Technical Committee (FFMTC) meeting will take place on Monday, October 31, 2022. The time and place of the meeting are as follows:

An immediate postdoctoral position in the design and 3D printing of fiber-reinforced polymer composites is available in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at University of Colorado Denver. The project aims to develop an integrated workflow of composite materials, including optimization design, 3D printing, and application insertion.
The Sun Research Group in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at the University of Kentucky has one fully-funded opening for PhD, starting from Fall 2023. The deadline of application is March 15th. Experience in the related areas is NOT a must. However, solid backgrounds in mechanics, mathematics and programming are strongly preferred.
Dear Colleagues,
I invite you to read our recent paper on hierarchically architected foams published in Extreme Mechanics Letters: Read full article here.
Abstract
I have a post-doc position for up to 18 months at Imperial College London, funded by Rolls Royce, working on dislocation mechanics modelling for problems occuring in materials for nuclear energy applications, full advert and application from the link below. Closing date 27th October 2022, starting as soon as possible, at least within the next 6 months. https://www.imperial.ac.uk/jobs/description/ENG02285/research-assistant-associate-mec
The objective of this PhD is to design a demonstrator at the laboratory scale of complex, multi-step forming process for thin sheet of metallic materials, to provide a large amount of smart data to test the reliability of the numerical prediction of the final state of the material, e.g., the deformed geometry and the residual stresses. The technology readiness level (TRL) of this project is around 2-3 and no direct industrial application is aimed at.
Dear iMechanicians, I hope that our latest paper is of interest. We develop an electro-chemo-mechanics framework that enables, for the first time, to quantify hydrogen uptake for any environment.
