Job Description

Responsibilities: You will closely collaborate with Schlumberger design engineers in US, Europe, and Asia. You will be performing FEA studies in technically challenging areas such as non-linear solid mechanics, metal plasticity, viscoelastic materials, shock, vibration, heat transfer, composites, and fluid/structure interactions. You will also need to present FEA results to various internal or external clients.

I am currently pursuing my PhD research under the supervision of Prof. Ralf Müller at the Institute for Applied Mechanics, TU Kaiserslautern, Germany. I have submitted my dissertation on October 2014. And expecting to defend my PhD work on March, 2015.

     The Laboratory of Ocular Biomechanics at the University of Pittsburgh is seeking candidates for a postdoctoral fellow position on microstructure-based modeling of soft tissue biomechanics and remodeling. The project goal is to understand aging and vision loss. Micromechanics of collective buckling in CNT turfs

Complex structures consisting of intertwined, nominally vertical carbon nanotubes (CNTs) are called turfs. Under uniform compression experiments, CNT turfs exhibit irreversible collective buckling of a layer preceded by reorientation of CNT segments. Experimentally observed independence of the buckling stress and the buckling wavelength on the turf width suggests the existence of an intrinsic material length.

Postdoctoral Position Opening in Solid Mechanics at Columbia University

A postdoctoral research scientist position is available immediately in the Department of Earth and Environmental Engineering at Columbia University. This position is renewable (up to three years) depending on performance. The main responsibility of the project, sponsored by ARPA-E, is to perform computer simulations of crashworthiness of electric vehicles using finite element method. It also involves multiscale modeling of a new type of impact resistant lithium-ion battery, as well as structural design and optimization.

Two postdoctoral positions available at NIST

The Biosystems and Biomaterials Group at NIST has two postdoctoral positions available for recent PhD graduate to work on (1) simulation of photon transport (light migration) in polymeric composites (2) modeling of cell-material adhesive interactions. These interdisciplinary research programs require the prospective applicants to have a strong background in computational methods (finite element or MD). For the cell-material interaction, candidates with prior experience on biophysics are preferred.
