2nd Workshop on Thermodynamics of Fatigue Process

Submitted by pragtic on

We did it some 16 months ago - the 1st volume of this new online workshop was run without any budget and without any costs. Simply, a meeting place for researchers focused on a similar topic, and willing to share their experience with a broad auditorium. The content still can be found on our website, including records from all lectures.

Predicting fracture energies and crack-tip fields of soft tough materials

Submitted by Teng zhang on

Soft materials including elastomers and gels are pervasive in biological systems and technological applications. Whereas it is known that intrinsic fracture energies of soft materials are relatively low, how the intrinsic fracture energy cooperates with mechanical dissipation in process zone to give high fracture toughness of soft materials is not well understood. In addition, it is still challenging to predict fracture energies and crack-tip strain fields of soft tough materials.

Two Nano-Tribology postdoctoral positions in Tel Aviv University

Submitted by shmuel on

Two postdoctoral positions are available in the group of Prof. M. Urbakh in lively Tel-Aviv. Topics are centered around nano and micro-scale tribology (friction, dissipation, adhesion, wear) involving theory, modeling, and computer simulation of frictional and nonlinear
dissipation phenomena.

The projects focus on: (i) studies of friction at micropatterened surfaces with biomimetic and sensing applications, and (ii) novel approaches to control frictional response at the nanoscale through application of electric field, light and force modulations.
