Fracture in rock using ABAQUS

Submitted by Sivakumar2013 on

Hi,

Im doing my research in crack initiation and propagation in rock and i have adopted ABAQUS to do this problem. But i cannot find any tutorial for crack growth in rock. As per some random literature i started using XFEM model to model the crack growth. But i still didnt feel confident about my work. Can anyone suggest me some material and im beginner to ABAQUS tool

Visualizing LAMMPS molecular dynamics trajectories using visual molecular dynamics (VMD)

Submitted by Nuwan Dewapriya on

It is very important to visualize molecular dynamics (MD) trajectories since there are many aspects of MD simulations which are difficult to identify without a proper visualization tool. Improper bounday condition in MD is one of such examples. I use Visual Molecular Dynamics (VMD) to visualize my MD simulations. Some of my movies, created using VMD, are shown below.

Shape Functions of a Constant Strain Tetrahedron

Submitted by mohammedlamine on

Hello,

I have developped a New Method to Compute Numerically the Shape Functions of a Constant Strain Tetrahedron from the Geometrical Information of its Vertices using the Planes' Equations Defining the Barycentric Coordinates versus the Cartesian Coordinates. The Algorithm for Solving the Linear Systems of Equations has been Implemented Efficiently with the Partial Pivoting Gauss LU Method for any arbitrary Shaped and Non-Degenerated Element.

Ph.D. position opened at the University of Brescia, Italy

Submitted by Lorenzo Bardella on
The group of Mechanics of Solids and Structures at the School of Engineering at the University of Brescia (Italy) has an open PhD position. The appointment will begin on January 1st 2014 for three full years.

The following topics are of interest:
1. small-scale plasticity of metals, with emphasis on modelling the size effect through strain gradient plasticity theories and dislocation mechanics. 2. micromechanics of composite materials, with emphasis on modelling failure.

Non-linear buckling analysis using static riks method-abaqus

Submitted by juliuspusic on

hi,i have been doing non-linear buckling analysis using STATIC RIKs method

my model specification:   length:65 metre, dia=2.85metre,thickness=0.38meter

and i am having the following doubts:

1.i have done Eigen value buckling analysis first and got the mode values..but for getting the mode shapes which load value i have to apply????(whether calculated euler buckling load value)

2.i have given imperfection as 0.0038  i.e..,10% of thickness value is it correct????
