What are AudioSlides?

AudioSlides are short, webcast-style presentations that are shown next to the article on ScienceDirect. This format gives authors the opportunity to summarize their research in their own words, helping readers to quickly understand what a paper is about and appreciate its relevance.

Postdoctoral Position Opening at University of Western Ontario, Canada

Position is available (starting from January 2014) for a postdoctoral fellow to carry out an industry sponsored project on carbon fiber composite modeling. The contract is initiated for one year, with possible extension if work progresses satisfactorily. The research will focus on (1) micromechanics modeling of elastic and viscoplastic behavior of injection molded carbon fiber composites; (2) homogenization techniques and constitutive model development for vibration, strength and impact simulations of carbon fiber composites.

1st International Symposium on Energy Challenges and Mechanics

The first International Symposium on Energy Challenges and Mechanics will take place at Aberdeen, Scotland, UK, on 8-10 July 2014. This symposium is about energy challenges and roles of mechanics as a means for seeking solutions, involving multiple disciplines in technology, science and management. The topics cover both sides; we will look at applications in various energy resources including fossil fuels, and many different forms of renewable energy.

The group of Mechanics of Solids and Structures at the School of Engineering at the University of Brescia (Italy) has an open PhD position. The appointment will begin on January 1st 2014 for three full years.


The following topics are of interest:
1. small-scale plasticity of metals, with emphasis on modelling the size effect through strain gradient plasticity theories and dislocation mechanics. 2. micromechanics of composite materials, with emphasis on modelling failure.
