Post-doctoral position at Purdue University in computational modeling of biomineralized materials
Applications are invited for a postdoctoral position in the Computational Multi-Scale Materials Modeling Lab in the Lyles School of Civil Engineering at Purdue University to work with a multidisciplinary/multiuniversity team in the area of modeling of biomineralized and bio-inspired materials. The goal of the program is to uncover fundamental design rules and develop simple and basic scientific foundations for the predictable design of bio-inspired materials that are light-weight, tough and strong.

Abaqus Unit Consistency (micrometer)
Hi All,
Am confused, and messy with a very basic thing, Units! I am modelling spherical with radius in micro-meters (1m~10^6 u m). The shear stress and pressure , in the problem is given in Pascals (N/m^2), 414 and 890 Pascals respectively. What will be my values for them in Abaqus, if units are to be consistent. Please help and thanks in advance my fellow bright researchers.

Orthotropic plane strain & plane stress Constitutive matrix for micropolar elastic media
Hi all,
Could anyone please help me finding the constitutive matrix for orthotropic plane strain and plane stress in cosserat elastic continua ? I have done searches with micropolar orthotropic 2D , cosserat orthotropic 2D/ Plane strain etc. But couldnot get it.
Also, what all changes one should make if I try extending the orthotropic elastic plane strain and plane stress constitutive relations for classical mechanics to the micropolar media?
Thanks in advance,
Nizanth
Reminder (Deadline, Dec 5th): Call for Nominations for the Eshelby Mechanics Award for Young Faculty
It is my pleasure to solicit nominations for the "Eshelby Mechanics Award for Young Faculty". This award, launched in 2012, is given annually to rapidly emerging junior faculty who exemplify the creative use and development of mechanics. The intent of the award is to promote the field of mechanics, especially among young researchers. While interdisciplinary work that bridges mechanics with physics, chemistry, biology and other disciplines is encouraged, the ideal awardee will demonstrate clear inspiration from mechanics in his/her research.
Aifantis International Symposium 2015 October - Antalya, Turkey
Dear Colleague,
We are sending you this message to let you know that the Aifantis International Symposium, dedicated to the life time achievements of Prof. Elias C. Aifantis, Emeritus Professor, Michigan Technological University, Houghton, USA and Honorary Professor, Aristotle University, Thessaloniki, Greece, will be held from 4-9 October 2015 in Antalya, Turkey.
Expectation of higher order moment (Bayesian Stats)
I am taking a course in Bayesian statistics, which is off my field. In the lecture notes, the instructor showed
E[X^2n] = (2n-1) σ^2n
and E[X^3 . Y] = E[Y^3 . X] = 3.ρ.σ^4
where σ = variance
E = expectation
X is a random variable.
ρ = cor(XY) = E[XY]/σ^2
Can anyone kindly explain how these equations were derived or atleast point me towards some text where I can understand this? Is this to do with the moment generating function?
