Unsafe acts/conditions during routine tasks in platforms/offshore and how to avoid them.

Submitted by Rovshan on

Dear all. Most of us are working already or planning join to oil and gas industry as an engineer,so you will do routine jobs frequently. I would like to share incidents/accidents and near misses those happened in the rig where I work and explain reasons ,how to avoid them. I hope you will benefit from this information in you future career.

Applied Mechanics Division Honors & Awards Banquet, 13 November 2012, Level Four, Grand Ballroom C, Hilton Americas, Houston.

It is a tremendous honor to speak at the Applied Mechanics Dinner as this year’s Timoshenko medalist.  I was one year old when Prof. Stephen Timoshenko delivered the inaugural lecture in this series.  I was a teenager when I first heard his name, and used his textbook on elasticity for my undergraduate class.

Topic 40: Does the value placed on human life have an effect on safety

Submitted by Elvis.E.Osung on

Discuss the relationship between safety and human life, with respect to the effect of the financial value placed on human life and how an increase or a reduction in  the value placed on human life will affect the general concept of safety management.

Position within ERC Strarting Grant MINATRAN in Univ of Erlangen

Submitted by kaifanti on

There is a postdoctoral research postition within Dr. K.E. Aifantis's ERC Starting Grant at the Univ of Erlangen. The project is concerned with examining dislocation_interface interactions through gradient plasticty and simulations. A PhD in materials engineering is required and publications in the field must be evident. If a good experimental candidate is found who can perform in situ TEM/nanoindentation experiments he/she will also be considered. The position needs to be filled asap and can be extended for 18 months.

There is a postdoctoral research position within Dr. K.E. Aifantis's ERC Grant MINATRAN at the Univ of Erlangen. It is concerned with the effect of nanoparticles on cell cultures. A PhD in materials science, or cell biology is required as well as knowledge on cell cultures and materials characterization (SEM/TEM). The position needs to be filled asap and can be extended to 18 months upon positive evaluation. Those interested please contact katerinaaifantis [at] gmail.com

Topic 39: PROPOSED EU REGUATION ON OFFSHORE OIL AND GAS SAFETY

Submitted by Babawale Onagbola on

At
the last Safety Engineering and Risk Management lecture delivered by the Lawyer
from Maclay Murray and Spence,he touched on an interesting issue. The October
27, 2011 proposal of the EU to introduce binding offshore safety regulations
for the 27 member countries including Norway as a reaction to the Deepwater
Horizon accident the previous year. While I understand that the present regime
of offshore regulations in the UK is the bench mark worldwide, I cannot seem to
agree more with the EU’s proposal to develop uniform regulations guiding the
safety of offshore operations in this part of the world, especially with the EU

FLUID CAVITY HELP

Submitted by manz_0 on

I am modelling an inflated sphere. The sphere is composed off two circular planar membranes joined together at the boundries.

I have modelled the inside of the sphere as a fluid cavity and will inflate it to its threshold limit.

I have achieved this by using the fluid cavity and fluid inflator method but for some reason when I run my input file I receive the following message:

***ERROR: THE FLUID INFLATOR ACTIVATION HAS BEEN SPECIFIED ON THE FLUID

Dear all,

On Thursday, the M3C4 is presenting their results in the "Betondag" (Concrete day), an annual meeting of everyone in the Netherlands and beyond, who deals with concrete, from mechanicians to contractors! More details are available on www.betonvereniging.nl. As always, expect news on our official project blog: http://microlab-m3c4.blogspot.nl/ .

Cheers!
