Physical significance of higher order spatial derivatives of displacement (longitudnal loading)

Submitted by rpd25 on

Hi,

I have encountered fourth order space derivative in the PDE derived for smart material.I am looking for the physical significance of higher order spatial derivative of displacment in longitudnal loading. In the Euler-Bernoulli beam theory (lateral loading), the fourth order space derivative referes to the load.

In longitudinal loading, the first order space derivative is strain i.e  du/dx .What are the significane of higher order space derivatives d^2 u/dx^2 , d^3 u/dx^3 , d^4 u/dx^4?

Please share your expertise.

Thanks in advance.

Running python script through matlab

Submitted by cgouder on

Dear Friends ,

I am using an optimisation algorithm in matlab.I need to start abaqus from Matlab ( Using abaqus job=jobname), later i want to run a python code to extract some history outputs and feed into matlab. The process involves many iterations . Can anybody tell me how i can run the python script from Matlab ?.

 Thanks and Best Regards

Experimental data showing effect of stress state

Submitted by anuradha on

While there is a lot of experimental literature available on the effects of stress-state on ductile failure under monotonic loading, corresponding studies on fatigue mostly involves bending and torsion type of combination loading. Unfortunately, such a loading corresponds to one of the principal stresses being negative and therefore not as critical. We could find only two references which show clear effect of biaxial state of stress in a pressurised cylinder subject to additional axial load (Biaxial-tension fatigue of inconel 718, it is a report in UIUC 1989).
