Matlab source code for XFEM implementation (2D dynamic crack propagation problem)

Submitted by abbhuiya on

Hello everyone,

I was looking for a Matlab source code for implementing XFEM to solve a dynamic problem (specifically dynamic crack propagation problem). I found several source codes which only solve static problems (they don't calculate mass matrix and they don't do the time integration).

My research goal is to remove the oscillations from stress intensity factors  for a dynmic crack propagation problem. I will really appreciate any kind of help/suggestions.

Post-doctoral positions at National University of Singapore (NUS) and Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD)

Submitted by Shailendra on

Starting April 2016, we will have openings for two post-doctoral fellow positions in experimental and computational mechanics of advanced polymers. These positions will support a new research program between Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD) and National University of Singapore (NUS) funded by Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR). The project focuses on synthesizing, characterizing, modeling, and simulating the thermo-mechanical behavior of polymers with covalent adaptable networks (CANs), e.g. vitrimers.

PhD Positions in Computational Mechanics and Experimental Biomechanics - University of Illinois at Chicago

Submitted by Hamed Hatami on

We are looking for candidates for doctoral positions in the areas of a) computational mechanics, and b) experimental biomechanics.

Candidates must have earned a M.Sc. degree in Mechanical Engineering or in a related field from an accredited University.

Candidates with strong background in numerical simulations (e.g. C++ and FORTRAN programming skills, finite element analysis, and high performance computing) and previous experience in experimental characterization of tissues are highly desirable.

Interalaminar damage model

Submitted by r_n_s_s on

Dear iMechanicas,

I need advices from experts regarding choosing a proper interalaminar damage model for the implementation into the theory of plates and shells. I am going to apply a failure criterion which is straight forward but concerning the degradation procedure of material properties I may need some suggestions.

Best regards,

Modelling Crack propagation in a viscoelastic material using cohesive zone modelling in abaqus.

Submitted by Prashanthi on

Hello everyone,

I need to validate crack propagation in a viscoelastic material using Cohesive Zone Modelling. I have given following properties as  fracture criterion.

Damage initiation= MAXS damage, Normalstress=Shear1=Shear2=3.4MPa.

Damage Propagation:

Type: Energy,

Softening: Exponential

Degradation: Maximum

Mixed mode behaviour: Power Law

Mode mix ratio: Energy

Power:1

Fracture energy(Normal)=Shear1=Shear2=274J/m2.
