Greetings - I am seeking two self-motivated PhD students for two separate NSF projects:
Project 1 is on nonlinear nonconservative dynamics of fiber-based flexible piezoelectric composites for complex 3D deformations (involves theory and experiments)
keywords: vibration, piezoelectricity, nonlinear, dissipation, plates, actuation
(a co-PI and another student will be on the fluid dynamics side of the multiphysics problem, involves strong collaboration)
We are looking for a motivated PhD student in the area of structural optimization and additive manufacturing. Applicants with background in the area of solid mechanics/ computational mechanics/ structural optimization/ additive manufacturing will be preferred.

Prof. Ge’s Advanced Manufacturing and Design Laboratory (http://amd.sutd.edu.sg/) is recruiting PhD students. The Ph.D.scholarships are immediately available in the general areas of functional advanced manufacturing. The research topics can vary based on the student’s background from solid mechanics for soft active materials, UV curable functional polymer development for 3D printing, and development of high resolution multifunctional 3D Printing system.
PhD positions in the broad area of mechanics of advanced materials and metamaterials are available in the group of Prof. Stefano Gonella (http://personal.cege.umn.edu/~gonella/) at the University of Minnesota.
Current topics of interest include: 1) Nonlinear metamaterials, including soft architected lattices; 2) Topological and non-reciprocal metamaterials; 3) Tunable and programmable multifunctional materials and structures.

The Division of Mechanics at Lund University, Sweden, invites applicants for a PhD position oriented towards multiscale modelling of grain boundaries in metals. The research program focuses on improving the understanding and modelling capabilities of impurity induced grain boundary embrittlement, with special emphasis fusion reactor materials, i.e. primarily tungsten. The ultimate goal of this research is to develop an atomistically-informed continuum-based theoretical and computational framework to predict the failure of impurity inhabited grain boundaries.
