PhD positions in multiscale modeling of materials at North Dakota State University

Submitted by Wenjie Xia on

One or two fully funded PhD positisons (tuition plus reasearch or teaching assistantships) are immediately available in the Computational Dynamics and Materials Laboratory at North Dakota State University (NDSU) during the academic year 2018~2019. Our research aims to advance the design and development of high-performance multifunctional engineering materials (including polymers, composites, granular/soft matter and biomaterials) through computation, multiscale modeling and machine learning.

Ph.D. position in mechanics of polymer thin films at University of Central Florida

Submitted by Kawai Kwok on

Applications are invited for a Ph.D. position in modeling and characterization of polymer thin films at University of Central Florida (UCF). The project is focused on viscoelasticity, yielding, and viscoplasticity of polymer films for superpressure balloon and solar sail applications. A combination of computational, experimental, and analytical methods will be utilized in this research.

PhD position: In-situ small scale plasticity of materials

Submitted by gauravmohanty on

The Laboratory of Materials Science at Tampere University of Technology, Finland is looking for a PhD student in the field of micromechanics of materials studied in-situ in SEM under extreme deformation conditions - high temperatures and high strain rates. The position will be filled now for a fixed period of four (4) years.

Postdoc in computational mechanics of lattice structures at SUTD in Singapore

Submitted by OliverWeeger on

We are looking for a postdoctoral research fellow who has experience and interest in developing and implementing computational methods and algorithms for simulation and optimization in structural and continuum mechanics.

Opening for Lecturer in Mechanical Engineering at Columbia University

Submitted by Jeffrey Kysar on

The Department of Mechanical Engineering at Columbia has an opening for a Lecturer-in-Discipline to teach interdisciplinary classes related to mechanical engineering design, product design, and the design processes itself, with applications across all mechanical engineering disciplines including robotics, mechatronics, mechanical systems, thermal systems and energy systems.

Postdoc Positions Nonlinear Elasticty, Continuum Mechanics, Chile

Submitted by Roger Bustamante on

The Superior Councils for Science and Technological Development of Chile (CONICYT) will call soon for the FONDECYT Postdoctoral Grants Competition.

The available grants are for 2 or 3 years. The applicants must have obtained their Doctorate degrees approximately not before January of 2015 and after the end of September of 2018 (the exact dates will appear in the page of the agency later on).

If there is a person interested in doing research in nonlinear elasticity and continuum mechanics with me as a sponsoring researcher, please feel free to contact me for further enquiries (rogbusta [at] ing.uchile.cl). My recent research interests are on the developing of some new constitutive models for elastic and inelastic bodies (especially for rocks), nonlinear magneto and electro-elasticity and also on the modelling of residual stresses in arteries. I do mostly theoretical work.
