I am writing to draw your attention to our annual solicitation for applications to Rowland Junior Fellows Program, which may be of interest to your graduate students and postdoctoral fellows.
We have currently eight Rowland Junior Fellows at the Institute. As a look at our website will tell you (http://rowland.harvard.edu), they work on a broad range of topics, from condensed matter physics to plant physiology.
New students may start from January 2008 if the graduate students have previous research experience in solid mechanics (e.g., nano/micro-mechanics, computational mechanics) or material engineering (MD simulation, mechanical behaviors). Students will have the opportunities to conduct balanced experimental and computational work on the durabilty and impact failure of marine composite materials; failure and material designs of nanocomposite materials; or rehabilitation of infrastructure materials using composites and other materials. An MS degree is required.
PhD position (Uk/EU students) on "Modelling of Fibre Reinforced Composites" available at Glasgow University.

The Department of Mechanical Engineering seeks an outstanding
individual at the rank of Assistant Professor or Associate Professor
without tenure, in the area of Computational Mechanics.
Applicants must hold an earned doctorate by the time of appointment in
an appropriate field and must have a demonstrated ability to carry out
outstanding research; they must also have a strong record of, or
promise for, exceptional teaching. Specifically, applicants must
be strong in solid mechanics, and must have demonstrated strength to
The computational mechanics group at The University of Iowa, led by Professor S. Rahman, is looking for new Ph.D. students, who are capable of and interested in performing high-quality graduate research in stochastic dynamics and want to pursue academic/research career afterwards. The research, supported by NSF and others, entails developing new decomposition methods for solving general random eigenvalue problems encountered in engineering and sciences. The topic covers dynamics (mechanics), stochastics, and computational methods.
