Hi,

does anyone know where I can find the analytical expressions for the components

of the Jacobian matrix of the Mooney-Rivlin model.

I know the compact form of the matrix, with the tensor products, deviators etc,

but I'm looking for the explicit expressions of each component of the matrix.

many thanks!

Penetration problem in Abaqus

I have been trying to model the penetration of a thin metal plate by a flat cylindrical bullet in ABAQUS. The plate has been treated as a membrane, and I am using Johnson-Cook's damage model in conjunction with Johnson-Cook hardening. The bullet is deforming the plate and travelling to the opposite side of the plate. But the dent is becoming infinitely long, but not showing any signs of ductile failure. What could have probably gone worng?

I have funds for someone to visit me at The University of Chile

Submitted by Alejandro Orti… on

I have funds for someone to come for a short visit (one to two weeks) to the University of Chile. You are eligible if:

a) You hold a Ph.D in Civil Engg, Mechanical Engg, Material Science, Mathematics or closely related field.

b) You currently work at any University, Research lab or similar.

c) One of your research areas is meshfree or finite element methods (including xfem and isogeometric analysis) for solid mechanics (preferably nonlinear).

d) You are able to come here before this October 31th.

In Abaqus, how to get SSE in UMAT?

Hi all,

I have been writing a UMAT function with modified hyper-visco-elastic model. My question is: after I got the Cauchy stress at the end of step, how do I get the SSE (elastic strain energy density)?

If it is only hyper-elastic I would have known (since the strain energy function itself is given). However, if it is viscoelastic, how should I calculate?

PS: I would also appreciate it if anyone could shed some light in getting SPD, SCD as well. Thanks a lot!

How to move cylindrical shape heat source in plate using abaqus

Submitted by deepak.yaduwanshi on

I am working on friction stir welding process in that i have to move tool shape heat source in plate to find out temperature distribution in plate . I have make circular shape heat source on the surface of the plate but i want to make cylindrical shape pin as a heat source in that. presenyly i am using dflux subroutine pls help me

UEL Subroutine aborts with error 5.

Submitted by somusshabadi on

Hello Experts,

I have written a Uel subroutine and trying to implement on a plate constrained at all the edges.

My UEL Subroutine executes without any errors when the total number of elements are just 15 to 20. But when I increase the number of elements and mesh it more fine, My Uel subroutine aborts with ERROR Code 5.

If I print the JELEM, UEL Subroutine is aborting always at 52th Element, i.e when JELEM=52. Even when I remesh the structure with different size, Uel subroutine consistantly aborts for the 52ed element.

Differnce betwwen general Orthogonal cutting and Single point diamond cutting

Submitted by Borad M Barkachary on

Hello Everyone..

As per my knowledge for most of the numerical simulation is assumes 2D orthogonal cutting.  But, I am doubt about Single point diamond Cutting. can we consider it orthogonal cutting....??

because the tool is in crystalline structure. ??

any body please... can clearify my doubt...??
