Crack Initiation with UMAT

Submitted by Panos Efthymiadis on

Dear all,

I want to model crack initiation and propagation for a user defined material, using Abaqus. When I try to model , I get the following error:

A MATERIAL PROPERTY THAT IS NOT ALLOWED WITH A USER MATERIAL HAS BEEN SPECIFIED

when I take out critical damage initiation, the model works fine; which means that it doesnt allow me to couple UMAT with crack initiation. Does anyone know how to handle this problem?

All the best,

how to apply a torsional moment to shell made up of composite in ANSYS

Submitted by firozahmed49 on

HI,
I am performing a non linear buckling analysis in ansys using shell 181 element. My geometry is made up of composite material and has a shell structure. The shell is subjected to torsion at one end so as to buckle throughout it length. the other end is fully constraint.
My problem is how to apply this torsional moment at the free end.
anybody please help me.

A short-beam shear fracture approach to measure the mode II fracture toughness of materials with preferred interfaces

Submitted by Arun Krishnan on

Increasing complexity of numerical simulations has made it important to obtain reliable experimental data for a variety of mechanical properties. Fracture properties are complex to measure but accurate data is often desirable for several challenging problems. We have developed a novel short-beam shear fracture approach in order to measure the mode-II fracture toughness properties of materials with 'preferred' interfaces.

Hi, my thesis is about implementation of bulk metallic glass constitutive equations into ABAQUS VUMAT, but there is a Laplacian operator in some of my constitutive equations, is anybody know how to implement Laplacian operation into a VUMAT?
