Applications are invited for a postdoctoral position within the Micro and Nano Mechanics Laboratory in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Northwestern University. The successful candidate will participate in a vibrant interdisciplinary research group and will be involved in projects addressing multiscale modeling to understand load-transfer mechanisms in hierarchical carbon-based nanostructures, as well as modeling of semiconducting nanowires to understand failure modes and size effects in electromechanical properties.

One postdoc and several PhD student positions are available at Arizona State University for fall 2012. Research background in at least one of the following areas is preferred.

1. Fatigue and fracture of materials and structures

2. Computational mechanics and micromechanics

3. Damage detection for composite materials

Multiple PhD positions are available for the fall 2012/winter 2013 semesters in microstructure-mechanics relationships for structural materials at high temperatures in the Center for Advanced Vehicular Systems (http://www.cavs.msstate.edu) at Mississippi State University.  The project is funded through Air Force Office for Scientific Research (AFOSR) and will involve multiscale materials characterization, in situ SEM experiments, and high temperature mechanical testing for turbine blade structural materials (nickel-based superalloys). 

Two Masters' positions are now available for the winter semester (starting in January), 2013 on computational materials sciene in the Department of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering at the Unviersity of Manitoba. The potential student(s) will work on the thermostability and mechanical properties in nanocrystalline materials and crystalline/amorphous composites. Students with strong interests in atomistic simulations (MD, ab inito, monte carlo, etc.) and good programming skills (C, Fortran, etc.) are encouraged to apply. The deadline for abstract submission is extended to 16th August 2012. The title of the international conference is "Indo-Danish International Conference on Wind Energy: Materials, Engineering and Policies (WEMEP2012)". The Conference will be held only two days i.e. 22nd - 23rd November 2012 at BITS-Pilani, Hyderabad Campus, Jawahar Nagar, R.R. Dist, Hyderabad – India.

A postdoctoral position is available immediately in Brinson’s Advanced Materials Lab involving collaborative work on finite element modeling of nanostructured polymer composites. The majority of the work will be split across two projects on the subject.  The first project involves 3D modeling of filled elastomers, with a focus on the viscoelastic properties. Non-linear viscoelastic modeling experience is a plus, but not required.
