Journal Club Theme of December 2011: Mechanics of Porous Materials

Submitted by john.balk on

Porous materials can be created by a variety of methods and exhibit properties that are advantageous in certain applications, e.g. insulation, energy absorption, and core materials in sandwich panels. As the length scale of the pores/ligaments is reduced below one micron, size effects arise and cause changes in the deformation mechanisms that operate in the ligament material. The mechanical properties can change dramatically, especially for so-called “nanoporous metals”, which have pores and ligaments as small as a few nanometers.

strain-displacement matrix

Submitted by hadi on

Hello everyone,

I have a basic question in ABAQUS. For developing a user element in ABAQUS, the strain-displacement tensor, or the so-called B-matrix, needs to be calculated in the UEL subroutine. Applying the B-matrix on the displacement vector gives rise to the strain vector. However, we know that there are more than one strain measure for corresponding, or in other words, different conjugate stress measures.

What is here not clear for me is what type of strain tensor is calculated by applying B on the displacement vector: (eps=B.d) what is eps here?

DIN 50CrMo4 Steel AISI 4150 HELP

Submitted by spanielka on

Hello dear coleque

i am PhD student from slovak university of technology, and i have small problem with material database, i work with softvare ANSYS, DEFORM 2D/3D and SYSWELD, and i really ned found the material data vor DIN 50CrMo4 steel vor temperature 20-850°C because the material database of this softvare is horrable.

CAN you please, really please me with this problem ?

What is the basic difference between Deformation theory and flow theory of plasticity ?

Submitted by Suman.Guha on

I am familiar with the flow theory version of the plasticity theory but still quite confused with the deformation theory version of the same.

When a material is modeled using a non-linear elastic model to predict its plastic behavior with no distinction between the elastic and the plastic strain, is it a deformation theory in that case?

Any elaboration in this regard would be really helpful.

Thanks in advance.
