HEMI/MSEE Impact Research Workshop and Short Course, July 17-21, 2023
Johns Hopkins University’s Hopkins Extreme Materials Institute (HEMI), in collaboration with the Materials Science in Extreme Environments (MSEE) University Research Alliance, will host a workshop and short course on impact research experiments on July 17-21, 2023. The emphasis of the event will be on impact research experiments performed using gas guns, powder guns, and electromagnetic launchers.

SES 2023 Symposium 9-3 - Morphing Matter: Bioinspiration, Computational Design, Fabrication, Mechanics, and Sustainability
Morphing matter includes biological and engineering materials and structures with dynamic and tunable properties such as shape, color, stiffness, texture, and density. Examples include pinecones that open when dried and close when wet, octopus that camouflages by changing body shapes, textures and colors, food that changes shapes during cooking, and smart windows that dynamically tune color and surface roughness.
