Postdoctoral position in mechanics/robotics at UCLA

Submitted by Khalid Jawed on

We are looking for a postdoctoral fellow to work at the intersection of robotics and mechanics. The selected candidate will join the Structures-Computer Interaction Laboratory, a new group in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering of the University of California, Los Angeles. Visit our website: https://structures.computer. The research project aims to use collaborative robots to investigate the mechanics of structures (slender/flexible structures in particular). Our lab is equipped with a Sawyer collaborative robot from Rethink Robotics. We will explore how continuum mechanics simulations can be used to train robots to perform simple tasks, e.g. tying knots in ropes. Details of the project will be determined after consultation with the candidate.

Kindly view the PDF announcement for more details. The research will be conducted under the supervision of Professor Maurizio Porfiri, director of the DSL. The Dynamical Systems Laboratory (DSL) is seeking to recruit outstanding Ph.D. students in a number of funded research projects.

Finger Motion Detection Glove Toward Human-Machine Interface

Submitted by mortezaamjadi on

Finger motion capturing systems have a wide variety of applications such as telerobotics, rehabilitation, and avatar control. While commercial devices are too costly, studies on such systems are either impractical to use or have speed limitations. This paper proposes a practical version of the glovebased finger motion capturing system.

The Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of California, Santa Barbara invites applications for two tenure-track faculty positions at the level of Assistant Professor.

The Department is looking for exceptional individuals in all areas of mechanical engineering, with particular emphasis on i) soft robotics, including soft body design and mechanics, sensing and actuation, and ii) micro/nano science and technology, including micro/nano additive manufacturing, micro/nano robotics, and micro/nano energy sensing and heat transfer.

Reverse Engineering Ants for Robotics

Submitted by Simpleware on

New research is emerging out of a project where Ohio State University used our software to reconstruct the anatomy of an ant neck. In this project, micro-CT scans of an ant neck were reconstructed using Simpleware software and exported as a mesh for analysis in Abaqus.
