Ph.D. Positions in Mechanics and Materials at the University of Houston

We have open Ph.D. positions in my group at the University of Houston (UH) this Fall or Spring 2022. The general area of research is the mechanics of material failure. Of particular interest, is understanding how microstructures influence damage and fracture processes in advanced materials including metals and polymers. We formulate theoretical frameworks to assess and predict material behaviors at different length-scales via computational modeling and simulations. We closely collaborate with experimental groups.

Two new books for continuum mechanics of solids

I would like to announce two new books that Prof. Lallit Anand and I have just published on continuum mechanics of solids.

July 27-29, 2020: Virtual Symposium on Experimental Solid Mechanics

The Department of Mechanical Engineering at the Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru, invites you to join us from July 27th to 29th, 2020, for a virtual Symposium on Experimental Solid Mechanics.

The symposium is being organized in honor of Prof K R Yogendra Simha, who has worked extensively in the areas of fracture mechanics, impact mechanics and photoelasticity, and has taught and mentored generations of mechanical engineers.

Computational Mechanics Postdoctoral Research Scientist Position at Columbia University

Dear colleagues,

There is a new opening for one postdoc position, to be filled immediately, in my research group in the Department of Civil Engineering and Engineering Mechanics at Columbia University. We are looking for postdocs in the broad area of computational mechanics. Candidates should have expertise in modeling dynamic responses of path-dependent materials. Our project is specifically focused on applications of machine learning (reinforcement learning, graph embedding) for computational plasticity and damage.
