Rotational Abaqus Direct Cyclic Boundary Condition

Submitted by paulamil on

Greetings,

I am attempting to model the rotation of a cylindrical bar using Abaqus 6.12 coupled with the direct cylic approach. In my model I have one end of the beam fixed while the other has a kinematic coupling constraint to a reference point that has an applied rotation of 0.1 rad.

Create new ( multiple ) parts from existing (single )part in Abaqus

Submitted by sidk1984 on

Hello Everyone,

i am kind of newbie to Abaqus, in learning phase. My question is regarding creating new parts from existing part in abaqus, kind of splitting activity similar to slice feature in ANSYS Designmodeler. As far as my regular activity in Ansys workbench, i require to slice body in designmodeler, to create new volumes, to refine mesh, or to define contacts with different status.have limited access to modeling software, so basically work with simulation software pre processor.

As we approach the last few months of 2013, it’s interesting to
reflect upon what took place over the past ten months. Reminiscing can
be fun, but do you know what makes it even better? Sharing memories for

how to model masonry wall in abaqus

Submitted by eng.femiran on

here we are to tell you how we can model masonry in abaqus cae.
there are 3 ways:
1-micro modeling
2- macro modeling
3- micro-macro modeling(HOMOGENIZATION)
micro modeling;
in this method all parts should be modeled in abaqus separately.
but notice that don't use shell to modeling grout because of 3d properties of grout and cohesive characteristics.
this method is suitable for small masonry panels with 2-3 layers of brick.

how to link abaqus with matlab ?

Submitted by eng.femiran on

You should access the abaqus results (*.fil) file via MATLAB.
In order to take your results into a fil file you should specify *FILE FORMAT, ASCII along with *EL FILE and/or *NODE FILE, etc. options in your abaqus input file (assuming that you run Abaqus/Standard).

After creating the results fil file, go to section 5.1.2 of the Abaqus Analysis User's Manual to find details about how to read the fil file. You can use this information to read this file using MATLAB.

Abaqus python scripting, booleanmerge section assignment

Submitted by sina_khodaie on

Hey,

I am writing a python script for modeling aggregates in a concrete cylinder. I have created a all the particles and and specified section properties to them and to the  cylinder.

The procedure I am using is to merge the particles and the cylinder while retaining the boundaries. If the sctions are assigned to the parts before merging, the result is the cylinder with the specified section assignmentsfor each part.

I wrote the code in python but seems like it does not include the section assignment to the new part from merge.

PhD studentship position on "modelling of surface defects transformation in hot rolling of steel"

Submitted by Ghadbeigi on

a PhD student ship is available for UK/EU nationals (ONLY) to develop a Finite Element model of the rolling
operation to predict the behaviour of surface defects on the rolled
material during hot rolling of steels. The effects of geometrical parameters along with the material
properties and the rolling geometry, such as bite angle, on the behaviour of
the surface defects during rolling will be investigated. The
project is partially funded by Tata Steel Europe,
