The Fluid Dynamics and Solid Mechanics Group (T-3) at Los Alamos National Laboratory is currently seeking outstanding candidates for a post-doctoral research position in the areas of solid mechanics, constitutive modeling, computational methods, and multi-scale modeling and simulation techniques. The prospective candidate is expected to take part in theory and computational method development for the effective representation of plasticity, damage and failure in solid materials.

PhD position in the area of atomistic-based modelling of polymer composite degradation

Applications are invited for one PhD position (4 years) in the area of atomistic-based modelling of polymer composite degradation at Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands.

The successful applicant will work with Dr. Angelo Simone (Computational Mechanics of Materials Group) and Prof. Barend Thijsse (Virtual Materials and Mechanics Group) on a project funded by the Technology Foundation STW through the High Tech Materials program. The position is to commence in spring/summer 2015 or as soon as possible thereafter.

2nd Call for Abstracts: USNCCM13 Minisymposium 414 on Recent Advances in Mesh Adaptivity for Inelasticity, Damage, Crack Propagation and Failure.

In this minisymposium we seek to highlight challenging problems in computational solid mechanics that require mesh adaptation methods for their solution. We focus on the finite element method and works that address large deformations and the accompanying inelasticity, damage, crack propagation and failure. Discussion will center on Lagrangian descriptions and determining the necessary computational components to resolve, preserve, and evolve the fields that govern these processes. Prototypical material systems may include, but are not limited to, ductile metals and biomaterials.

PhD position on multi-scale modelling of fatigue damage in composites @ Ghent University (Belgium)

Computational Mechanics of Materials (IWCMM 24) in Madrid, Spain, on

October 1st-3rd, 2014 is now opened. The deadline for abstract

submission is June 15th, 2014.



The workshop is intended to cover all aspects of modeling and

simulations of the mechanical behavior at different length and time

scales. The materials of interest range from traditional materials such

as metals, alloys, polymers and composites to advanced and emerging
