The James Watt School of Engineering is looking for a postdoctoral researcher to contribute to/make a leading contribution to a large international EPSRC funded project looking at the physics and mechanics of triboelectric nanogenerators (or TENGs).  This position will focus on the mechanics and tribology of TENGs and will involve both experimental & modelling work. Of particular interest is modelling and experimental analysis aimed at understanding, predicting and optimising the contact area and charge transfer at triboelectric interfaces.

About this position: The Computational Soft Matter Laboratory (https://farokhirad.com), within the Department of Mechanical Engineering (https://mie.njit.edu/) at the New Jersey Institute of technology (NJIT), is currently offering a Ph.D. position available for Spring/Fall 2024. The successful candidate will carry out computational research focusing on the interaction of flexible nanomaterials with biological cell membranes.

The Gordon Research Conference on the Science of Adhesion is this summer (23-28 July 2023).  The meeting will be held on the campus of Mount Holyoke College in western Massachusetts and will have more than 20 invited talks from world leaders in the fields of adhesion, soft matter, and materials. This is a great meeting for students and early career researchers to get connected to the community. Poster presentations are strongly encouraged from all participants, and poster abstracts can still be submitted.

Research intern and postdoctoral positions on biomechanics, bioinspired robotics, mechanical metamaterials, and/or PPE innovation are available at Brigham and Women's Hospital and Harvard Medical School. Two postdoctoral fellow positions at Northeastern University are available immediately, focused on the analysis of the nonlinear behavior of structures and soft matter using computational mechanics and the development and analysis of active cellular structures, and biomimetic materials. The research will be carried out at the High Performance Materials and Structures Laboratory (http://www.hpmsl.neu.edu/).

A 3-year PhD scholarship is available to work on simulation methods to treat colloidal
particles that are flowing near, or are transported within fluid interfaces (L.
Botto et al., Soft Matter, 2012, 8, 9957-9971); the focus is on fluid

Electroactive soft elastomers require huge electric field for a meaningful actuation. We demonstrate, by means of numerical simulation, that this can be dramatically reduced and large deformations can be achieved with suitably designed heterogeneous actuators. The mechanism by which the enhancement is attained is illustrated with the aid of both idealized and periodic models.

A postdoctoral fellowship funded by the US Air Force is available at the University of Southampton (UK) to work in the area of computational mechanics applied to biomimetics and bio-inspired structures for military applications.
