Postdoc in multi-scale modelling of composites vibration response @ Ghent University (Belgium)

Nowadays, there is an increasing interest to use composite materials in automotive applications, in particular the use of fibre-reinforced plastics (carbon or glass fibres in a polymer matrix) is widely considered. The use of lighter materials, and hence a reduced fuel consumption, can be one of the possible solutions for reduced CO2 emissions. As the automotive industry is mainly familiar with metals and plastics, a lot of research is being spent on the mechanical response of composites under fatigue and impact loading, and on developing new design methodologies for these "new" materials.

I have a PhD Studentship available for UK settled status residents.

Settled status in the UK, meaning they have no restrictions on how long they can stay and been 'ordinarily resident' in the UK for 3 years prior to the start of the grant. This means they must have been normally residing in the UK (apart from temporary or occasional absences) and not been residing in the UK wholly or mainly for the purpose of full-time education. (This does not apply to UK or EU nationals).

Τhe Greek Association of Computational Mechanics (GRACM) in association with the Mechanical and Civil Engineering Departments of the University of Thessaly will organize the 8th GRACM conference in a series of congresses in the area of computational mechanics. The 2014 Nathan M. Newmark Medal was awarded to Professor Herbert A. Mang at the annual ASCE Structures Conference, which took place in Boston, April 3–5, 2014. Professor Mang was awarded the Newmark Medal for his outstanding research contributions in the area of nonlinear continuum and computational mechanics that clarified the cause of collapse of important concrete structures and quantified the influence of the initial post buckling behavior of metallic structures.

FEBio2 Released

It’s with great pleasure that we announce the release of version 2.0 of FEBio (Finite Elements for Biomechanics). This new version can be downloaded here .  FEBio is an open-source finite element package, specifically designed for solving problems in the field of computational biomechanics. This new version includes some major changes and contains a number of new and exciting features. Some of the noteworthy changes and additions are listed below.
