PhD Candidate required in Computational fracture mechanics

Submitted by hermatician on

I am looking for a PhD candidate who will be sponsered by my Institute to work in the area of fracture mechanics.

ABAQUS experience would be an advantage and concepts in fracture mechanics and finite elements will be desirable.

If you are interested to work in this area at Indian Institute of Technology Ropar in Metallurgical and Materials Engg. department, please dont hesitate to contact me at abhishek.tiwari [at] iitrpr.ac.in

Two open PhD positions in multi-physics process and performance modeling of alloys at the University of Tennessee

Submitted by Timothy Truster on

We have two open PhD position starting in the Fall semester 2020 at the Computational Laboratory for the Mechanics of Interfaces at the University of Tennessee - Knoxville (http://clmi.utk.edu). First research topic centers upon the modeling of texture evolution during processing (e.g. cogging and rolling) of titanium alloys using crystal plasticity and Fast Fourier Transform methods to couple the mesoscale and specimen scale.

Question about implicit creep subroutine in Abaqus

Submitted by Oskar Xavier on

The implicit implementation of creep in abaqus requires dh/d(\delta \epsilon_c ) as Jacobian in Newton-Raphson's iteration. The derivative can be expanded as shown in the figure attached. The term dh/dq, the one underlined by a green stroke, is expected to be provided by users through specifying DECRA, whereas the term dq/d(\delta \epsilon), underlined by a red one, is confusing me. It seems that that term is computed by Abaqus but I have no idea how it is done. The same question applies to the last derivative on the right hand side.

Thank you very much !

Next Indentation workshop (SF2M-GIME) in Liège (Belgium) in september 2018.

Submitted by David MERCIER on

Dear colleagues,

We inform you that the next indentation conference from the Groupe Indentation Multi-Echelle (GIME) will be held in Liège (Belgium) on 11-14 September 2018.  The conference gathers every two years, scientists and industrials concerned by the problems of mechanical characterization of surfaces. In 2018, this conference is organized by Belgian scientists: ULg, CRM Group, UCL et UMons. In line with the 2016 edition, we organize two half-days of training on indentation, preceding the 2-day symposium.
