I'll be teaching an undergraduate course on engineering thermodynamics.  We will use the textbook by Cengel and Boles.  I will supplement the textbook using my own notes on thermodynamics.  Teaching this course will give me an opportunity to revise these notes and add new pieces. Here are notes for the opening lecture.

MIT Faculty Positions in Civil & Environmental Engineering

Submitted by Markus J. Buehler on

The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering invites applications for several tenure-track faculty positions to begin July 2015 or thereafter.  Appointments will be at the assistant or untenured associate professor level. In special cases, a senior faculty appointment may be possible.  We will consider exceptional candidates in a range of areas, broadly defined.  Further information about the department can be found at this page

1st International Symposium on Energy Challenges and Mechanics

Submitted by Laura De Lorenzis on

The first International Symposium on Energy Challenges and Mechanics will take place at Aberdeen, Scotland, UK, on 8-10 July 2014. This symposium is about energy challenges and roles of mechanics as a means for seeking solutions, involving multiple disciplines in technology, science and management. The topics cover both sides; we will look at applications in various energy resources including fossil fuels, and many different forms of renewable energy.
