A fully supported PhD position in computational mechanics and fluid-structure interaction (FSI) is available in the Department of Civil Engineering at Stony Brook University. The position is part of a collaborative project led by Drs. Rigoberto Burgueño, Paolo Celli, and George Moutsanidis. The successful applicant will work within an interdisciplinary research team focusing on the design of innovative structures for marine hydrokinetic energy devices, and will concentrate on the development and application of advanced numerical techniques to support these efforts.

The Ashby Postdoctural Fellow will be given the opportunity to pursue independent research in the general area of mechanics and materials, as well as contribute to ongoing research in the Mechanics and/or Materials Groups.

The Fellowship is normally for 3 years, with the post holder located in the Department of Engineering, University of Cambridge, UK.

The Biomechanics Lab in the Joint Department of Biomedical Engineering at Marquette University and Medical College of Wisconsin is recruiting Postdoctoral Research Associates to work on biomechanics and biomedical engineering research. 1 funded PhD position is available in the Mechanical Engineering Department at Temple University.  One research focus is on the design of architected composite structures for 3D printing.  More broadly, the student will be exposed to computational materials and mechanics of energy, nano/bio, and engineering materials.  The student will have opportunities to work with experimentalists and data scientists to generate high-impact research works.  Temple University is located in Philadelphia, the sixth-most populous U.S.

Position Description  

The Yang Research Group (PI: Dr. Jin Yang) in the Department of Aerospace Engineering and Engineering Mechanics (ASE/EM) at The University of Texas at Austin has two funded Ph.D. positions in experimental solid mechanics starting in Fall 2024 (apply before Dec/01/23). 

Qualifications

• A master’s or a bachelor' degree in aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, engineering mechanics, optical engineering, precision instrument, bioengineering, or related fields is preferred. 

Brief. Full-time PhD positions on the general theme of "Auxetics" and "Composites" are available (AuxeticsLab). Themes are shaped around fibre-reinforced composites, auxetics, and other structured materials.

Minimum Requirements. High GPA (>85%) and a track record of high quality relevant publications (minimum one first-author journal paper). For immediate application, a valid English test score is mandatory.
