Dr. Mukul Sharma, Professor in Dept. of Petroleum and Geosystems Engineering at the University of Texas at Austin is seeking to fill two Postdoctoral Positions.

Two postdoctoral fellow positions at Northeastern University are available immediately. First position is focused on the analysis of the nonlinear behavior of soft matter using computational mechanics and the development and analysis of biomimetic materials and structural systems. Second position is focused on computational and solid mechanics. The research will be carried out at the High Performance Materials and Structures Laboratory (http://www.hpmsl.neu.edu/).

A full-time post as a LATEST2 Research Associate is available for a 2 year fixed term subject to relevant skills and experience to work as part of the LATEST2 (Light Alloys Towards Environmentally Sustainable Transport: 2nd Generation) team in the School of Materials, University of Manchester.

A postdoctoral position is available immediately at the Department of Biomedical Engineering, Johns Hopkins University for work on a project simulating cardiac mechanics in normal and failing hearts. A PhD in Mechanical or Biomedical Engineering or related field is required. The candidate is required to have strong expertise in modeling soft tissue mechanics. The  successful candidate is expected to be able to develop code to simulate the contraction of the heart as well as to conduct simulation research on abnormalities in cardiac contraction. The Department of Industrial Engineering at the University of Pittsburgh anticipates an opening for a postdoctoral associate starting January 2012. The position’s primary area of research will focus on mechanics of micro-scale deformation processes and characterizing the thermomechanics of deformation at micrometer length-scales. Applicants with a strong background in computational solid mechanics and crystal plasticity will be preferred.

A postdoctoral research position is available in Dr. Yong Zhu’s lab in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at North Carolina State University. We are looking for a self-motivated researcher to work on projects involving mechanics of nanostructures including nanowires and nanotubes. A Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, Physics or a related area is required. Experience with in-situ nanomechanical testing using SEM, TEM, AFM or Raman are desirable.
